iOS 18 Features
Apple’s iOS 18 was released for everyone on September 16. Before the launch of Apple Intelligence, six new key features were the customization of icons on the Home Screen, swapping of the app shortcut on the Lock Screen, new Control Center, Rich Communication Services, and Password application.
That said, there are a lot of other little and entertaining tweaks that may also be beneficial.
Here are some features that we have curated. Guess what?; You might not have noticed them before.
Settings
Instead of showing every app on the first page of the Settings app so that if the user has many apps installed, the user has to scroll a long way down, Apple now has an exclusive Apps page for your apps. These neats up the crowded Settings screen and make it clearer where to find some controls for specific apps.
Photos
- The Screen Master fiasco was the catalyst that led to big improvements in one particular app: The Photos, where you can finally browse through your photo library without resorting to screenshots. You are allowed to press on the icon at the bottom left, which will take you to the option to uncheck screenshots under the view option, meaning they will not be visible.
- There are new options in the utility collection in the Photos app, such as documents, receipts, handwriting, illustrations, and QR codes, so a person can instantly search for something in photos. Also, the tabs you can see added at the bottom enable you to preview only the recently added media items, recently edited ones, and recently shared or shared ones.
- One lovely feature is that when you open the Photos app to select the photos you want to set as your wallpaper, it automatically filters photos you think would be great.
- It is now possible to copy edits between photos; this includes aspect ratio for crop, exposure, and white balance.
- As for the Camera, the Photos app also separates travel photos by default in a Trips part but also unifies People and Pets albums to enable searching for pictures where, for example, your partner is tagged together with your cat.
- A new speed control video can allow you to make slowed video on any platform, all through mobile.
Camera
- It was one of the most common complaints by users that music being listened to through the headphones stopped whenever the person was taking a photo or a video; however, iOS 18 fixes that issue as music can be played through Bluetooth connections during the photo or video capturing.
- The camera app receives a new addition in the self-timers category – 5, in addition to the 3- and 10-second options.
Control Center
- Widgets and button options can also be added to your iPhone’s Control Center on iOS 18.
- However, one of the biggest changes in the new view is that you now have a power button in the screen’s top-right area. It means that using the power key option to power off the device is easy — you don’t need to use the power button and volume down — it is in the Control Center.
Messages
- Messages app has only recently gotten the ability to schedule messages to be sent even if the phone is gibberish at the time. Still, this feature is tucked in the + menu and not adjacent to the send button, which might make it hard to find.
- I must say that iMessage also allows full-size images to be received, and the image size can reach 100 MB.
- Face Paint colorably customizes the text, making any letter, word, or phrase look more dynamic with options like Explode or Ripple. You can also put your text in bold, underlined, italics, and even cross out words.
- If you’re out of range, you can type in a message and send it through the satellite if you can’t get a signal.
- You can now step back with any emoji or sticker, and in the case of multiple ones, they are separated by space, so only the newest three are displayed right away.
Safari
- Safari has now included a tool to hide elements on a web page that could interfere with its functioning. This feature will not delete ads, but it may tidy up some of the sections of the website that are not required or unwanted. For instance, the signup box can be hidden if a website requires your input to sign up for their newsletter. The same feature was used in the Arc browser of The Browser Company last year.
- Shortening tools will enable you to get a brief of an article without going through the whole article.
- Other highlights will give you more information about a person, song, film, or television program.
Weather
- In the Weather app, a widget suggests that the Feels Like temperature should be incorporated with the actual temperature in the detailed weather preview. That makes it easier for you to compare the two.
- The Weather app will also feature higher winds, gusts, and directions.
- You can now set Home and Work locations from contacts in the Weather app.
Siri
You can now ACK or NAK to messages announced by Siri using only your head shake or nod on the AirPods. You can answer or refuse a call based only on your body movements.
Podcast
- The new Podcasts app enables one to move to a particular chapter from the progress bar if the podcast provides that option.
- The Podcasts app also allows for swapping positions of episodes in the listening queue and deleting episodes.
- With the help of the podcast transcript, you can share a specific part of a podcast.
Maps
- Maps now include new topographic maps, hikes, and routes in their features, and they are even competitive with third-party apps such as AllTrails.
- With the Maps app, you can download hikes found in all the National Parks in the United States for offline use. Also, developing your own walking and hiking routes is possible.
- Apple wants the Maps app to be even more useful in finding things, so now you can compare places based on photos, ratings, and prices.
Notes
- The new notes sections are now collapsible to create complex documents within the app.
- The app has also introduced the support of audio recording, which means, for instance, you can record an audio session right from the note so that it remains together with your comments, checklists, and other documents. It can also be modified while recording, such as the note itself.
- Notes app also supports inline search functionality within PDFs and turns the highlighter to a different color.
- Notes and Calculator Two of the featured applications facilitate solving mathematics equations.
- You can also include different graphs together with the variables that are equations.
- The long-awaited solution for creating a conversation-style thread in the Mail app has arrived. These help you perform the basic jobs, such as flagging the emails and deleting or archiving them.
- A new Transaction category is provided to enable users to quickly locate order confirmation, receipt, shipping, and travel details.
- At the same time, a section named Updates will gather the newsletters, the news, and the social network updates in the same manner as in Gmail.
- Out of Transactions, Updates, and Promotions, most timely items are kept under the Primary category. They will also be tagged with their respective category icon for convenience.)
- Clean-up facilities are now available from the Mail app, on iCloud.com, and by iCloud Mail settings.
Utilities and Keyboard
- This keyboard now incorporates more than one language into a single keyboard. It also identifies your last language in applications such as messages and dynames.
- Apple has also added a unified picker for emoji and stickers in the keyboard, making them both searchable.
- The Calculator can now solve problems involving expressions, set variable values, and draw graphs.
- When giving technical support, you may request access to the friend’s device and control it over the internet.
- That little flashlight icon on your phone? Well, it has a fun new look on certain models if you now use iOS 18. You can change the brightness in an instance and another parameter that allows you to change the width of the beam.
Journal
- In the Journal app, you can describe your mood.
- Writing time in the journal will be rounded up in mindful minutes.
- The app also has support for audio transcriptions and printing Out your entries.
- You can make use of such suggestions provided by Google. I can include the option to write and go to the Home Screen via widgets to get especially into journaling.
Calendar and Reminders
- In iOS 18, timed reminders will be displayed by the Calendar application; you can create or modify items within the app.
- The Calendar also gains new views for days, weeks, and months, so it’s easy to flick through the date.
- Similarly, there is a multilingual Grocery list and a recently deleted list in the Reminders app.
- New features of the Apple 15 version include establishing new items for a family list. Such as calendars, grocery lists, or password lists.
Files
- The Files app allows the storage of particular iCloud files or directories directly on the phone, fully downloaded and synchronized at all times.
- The new iOS 18 on iPhones allows users to access the latest file systems. APFS, exFAT, or MS-DOS (Fat32), for formatting external drives. You can also do this from the Files app by deleting these drivers.
Apple Tv App
- The latest Apple TV app has an Amazon Prime Video feature called InSight. Which presents information about actors and music used in shows or movies.
- You will also meet a new enhanced dialog feature that will allow you to listen to what is said to you. Even if there are loud effects and music.
Home
- With the Home app update to iOS 18, you can unlock connected doors with just your voice.
- You can also invite up to 29 members to grant them access based on the time.
- You can control the Ultra Wideband-compatible smart locks available next year without pulling out your phone from your pocket.
Accessibility
- iOS 18 contains many novelties, such as tracking your eyes when using your phone.
- Also, users can define particular phrases that will call the actions. Like going to the Home Screen, opening the Camera, triggering the Shortcut, or using the Siri command.
- IOS 18 also has vehicle motion cues; in this case, it comes with dots at the sides of the screen. Especially to assist in cases of motion sickness. These dots will help to define the movement of the vehicle. You can turn it on, turn it off, or let it find the settings on its own.
- Music Haptics will map the Taptic Engine of the iPhone with the beat of songs. So iPhone’s deaf and hard of hearing can use Apple Music.
